It took me such a long time to decide upon visiting Venice. I still don’t know why. But the first time I finally did, it was love at first “gondola”. I returned in less than 6 months and hope to return again and again. Venice in now ranked high in my top 5 favourite cities around the world.
As I told you before, I always get in the mood for an escape by watching some movies. In this case my favourite are : “Dangerous Beauty 1998” and “Casanova 2005”
From Marco Polo airport, we took a water taxi and within minutes the wind was blowing through my hair while floating on Grand Canal. We walked our way to the hotel, through narrow streets and it was then I firstly realized why Venice it considered such a romantic city: quite and picturesque canals, a labyrinth of medieval alleys to wander around, historical buildings, palazzo, museums and old churches.
We chose a boutique hotel decorated in the purest Venetian style, situated 10 minutes away from San Marco. Hotel Giorgione is all about the priceless feeling of living in a historical building: the venetian décor, the furniture, the antiques, the Murano glass chandeliers were part of a charming authentic Venetian escape.
Must do : Basilica San Marco, Dodges Palace, the prisons, Ponte dei Sospiri, the Venetian tower clock, Rialto Bridge, Peggy Guggenheim house, Murano island and many more. And of course, take a gondola, it’s a supreme escape back in time:)
In Venice you can walk for hours, for days and realize that you are stepping back in history, while crossing bridge after bridge. They say, there are over 400 bridges interconnecting the island. And buildings, each of them has a story. I always take a guide when visiting a new city and it’s always exciting to find new stories.
Then, the second best thing to do in Venice is to enjoy the life, grab a tiny table at a restaurant, sip a Bellini and just take time to look around: it’s all about history and romantic stories right in front of your eyes,
